Fashion Week

September is a turbulent month. It doesn’t only mean the end of our (beloved) summer, but it also marks a fresh start, as many go back to work after a lovely time off. September also offers space to New York Fashion Week. One of the world’s biggest fashion events will take place in a few days and we thought it’d be a good idea to make you feel prepared.

What to expect from the upcoming Fashion Weeks?

Well, a lot. For example, some very renowned designer brands are missing (we’re talking to you, Kenzo) and designers suddenly swap cities, to name a few. Read the four most important facts below.

1. Designers swapping cities

A designer exchange between cities has taken place. For example, Peter Pilotto has moved from London to Milan and he isn’t the only one; Boss exchanged New York for Milan as well.

2. Absent names

On top of this, some big names are absent during this Fashion Week edition. For example Kenzo, recently under creative direction of Felipe Oliveira Baptiste, has some things to sort out after the departure of Humberto Leon and Carol Lim. Baptiste is said to need a little more time to reinvent the brand. We’re very excited for what to come.

As the brand Sonia Rykiel has been liquidated, they won’t be showing either. The same holds for Roberto Cavalli, now in hands of new Dubai owners. They need some more time to figure out what to do with the brand.

3. Social issues

We expect society and social issues to play a big role in the upcoming ready-to-wear shows. Fashion Week is known for its political messages, dressed up in powerful garments. Without doubt, Brexit, Trump and climate change will all play a big role.

Earlier in August, many fashion brands signed a pact in order to become more sustainable. It’s now up to brands like Gucci and Burberry to show their first move in the right direction. We hold our breathes…

4. Big fashion moments are about to happen

Rihanna will show her Savage x Fenty lingerie collection, apart from her LVMH brand.

Furthermore, another #Tommynow show will take place in the Apollo Theater, featuring the Tommy x Zendaya collection. It’s said to become the party of the year and we’re excited. While the #Tommynow show used to be the only fashion show open for public, it no longer is. Fashion label Self-Portrait sells tickets for its front-row. Will this be the next thing during Fashion Week?
