Milan is one of the world’s fashion capitals. Prada, Jil Sander, Gucci, Armani, Fendi, Bottega Veneta, Etro, Marni, Versace, Missoni and Salvatore Ferragamo are just a few who will host their shows at Milan Fashion Week. As you’d expect, these designers attract the entire fashion crowd. This update: Marni and Versace.

Francesco Risso created his very own version of Alice in Wonderland. The entire collection was about putting together remnants, Risso explained before his show. Some items were created out of existing garments, others were composed of residual materials. The entire collection was very dreamy and had a DIY vibe.

Risso created this ‘amateur’ vibe on purpose, since he was inspired by what Martin Margiela already did back in the ’80s. Repurposing garments is what it’s about today, he claimed. On top of this, he isn’t afraid of using fantasy. Risso gave a new meaning to color blocking and patchwork.

At last, the crowd experienced recycling as well, as they uneasily sat on perished mattresses. On top of this, the runway consisted of rumpled and old-looking fabrics. It shows the true mastership of Risso’s imagination.

This season marked an important moment in fashion history: it was Versace’s first show in which both womenswear and menswear were shown together. Pre-show, Donatella Versace announced that her should would be full of “hyper-femininity” and “hyper-masculinity”. So far nothing new. Despite that Versace stays away from gender-fluidity and such, this show came close.

Since Versace’s acquisition by Michael Kors holdings, Versace’s collections have become more casual. A big surprise, for example, was the sportive sweater. However, Donatella juxtaposed it with super-tailored suits and belted waists.

Wondering whether she topped last season’s show? Well, the answer is no. However, she did a great job as several cameras were pointed towards the public. As a result, front row was confronted with… themselves. It was like an Instagram feed full of selfies, just like real life.

On top of this, Kendal Jenner wore the closing look. With a personality as Jenner, Jenny from the block is unnecessary, or isn’t she?
