Since she was 9 years old, the Iranian Tara Ghanzanfar collected handbags. Having an own label has always been a dream, one that has come true in 2017. As a kid, the young designer used to stroll around at markets around to the world, to find unique bags and wallets. This fascination has never disappeared.
In 2016, Tara Ghazanfar decided to quit her job as an Art Director at The Gentleman’s Journal (a London based men’s magazine, red.) to start her own handbag label, called after her mother: Tara Zadeh.
First samples
The first bags were well received by friends and family. Short after, Ghanzanfar brought her designs to a factory in a small town in Spain, where her ideas came to life. As soon as Moda Operandi started selling the label, everything went very fast. Other big e-tailers followed soon and Tara Zadeh’s Instagram account was exploding.
Bridging the gap between East and West
Since the Iranian Ghanzanfar was born in the U.S. and raised in Paris, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the designs of the bags have the best of both worlds. Multiculturalism is very important in everything Ghanzanfar does. The concept of the brand was developed at and inspired by the gardens and mosques of Tehran, Isfahan and Shiraz. The designs are influenced by every detail, color, pattern, form and line you see up there.
East and West are merged in Tara Zadeh’s designs: bold colors, big shapes and geometric forms and lines are mixed and adjusted to a new modern and edgy design, something you wouldn’t come up with yourself. Yet the designs and shapes are very minimalistic.
