For this collection, Chanel’s Virginie Viard reached out to artist Xavier Veilhan, whom she met via a mutual friend. Veilhand’s link to the house goes way back: he worked for its fine jewelry presentation 15 years ago. “I love his work and I needed someone to work with for the sets—the way Karl did. Me, I can’t do that! He loves Constructivism, that kind of thing which is so Karl!”, Viard explained to Vogue. The collaboration resulted in giant spinning discs and a sandy catwalk, in a color palette Chanel is known for: beige, black, and white.

Wearability at its finest

Besides the over-the-top entrance of Princess Charlotte on horse Kuskus, the Chanel couture collection felt down-to-earth. The collection’s ’20s and ’30s vibes were clearly visible thanks to the use of chiffon and organza. The feather details aside, each look is surprisingly wearable for a couture collection. The incredible finish of each garment betrayed that it’s a couture collection in heart and soul. A flapper fringe of ostrich, crystal beads, and mauve camellias made the collection simply irresistible. Combined with a French sense of je-ne-sais-quoi, expressing itself in extended trousers and kitten heels, make it the perfect collection for every re-emergence look – no matter the occasion.
