The comeback of the 90s sandal (and our thoughts on it)

In this section, we discuss the revival of trends or it-pieces we’d never expect to make its comeback. We elaborate on the particular trend, tell our thoughts on it and offer you the best items for those who are convinced. And because we totally accept that this trend might not be for you, we also offer some alternatives. This edition: the ’90s sandal – in a glamorous version. We can’t longer deny its revival.

’90s sandals

Last Spring and summer, we couldn’t live without the strappy sandal. We wouldn’t say they’re out of Vogue right now, but we’ve noticed the rise (or rebirth?) of a new shoe: the glamorous ’90s sandal. Its rebirth came simultaneously with the comeback of the Teva-inspired shoe. Chanel, Prada and Proenza Schouler are just a few of the renowned fashion houses that embraced this trend. Hence, Proenza collaborated with Birkenstock on another comfy model. In line with this, it seems to be a Spring full of opposites. After all, they attract and perhaps therefore they juxtapose very well.

Despite their comfortable and not-so-attractive colleagues, glamorous sandals have arrived in their most luxurious execution you could imagine. Think of silk, satin and other shiny materials. Glitter and glamour seem to work well for this type of shoe, reminding us of early seasons of Sex and the City. Those were the days in which Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin celebrated heyday. So, let’s take a look at how Carrie Bradshaw and co wore them first.
