Best shows of Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2019

Prada – Milan Fashion Week

Rebellious and grungy – those are the words that best describe Prada’s Fall/Winter 2019 collection. The models were either covered with black hair or made poppy and blonde. It depicts the two distinctive sides of the typical Prada woman, according to hair stylist Guido Paulo.

The name of the show “Anatomy of Romance” was displayed in the other contradictions of the collection: practical and feminine bags combined with chunky man-like boots. According to Miuccia Prada it formed a new definition of “romance and fear”. Anyway, we loved it. The entire show felt like a fairytale from the dark side, that we didn’t want to miss.

Marni – Milan Fashion Week

Marni’s Fall/Winter 2019 show, called Neuroerotik, was a tribute to individuality and uniqueness. Not only did the hair and make-up artists get free play to give every model a unique look, but the clothes were deconstructed and had a several meanings on its own. “Try to regard your knees as your nipples”, Fransesco Risso (head of design at Marni, red.) stated against one of the models backstage. It gave a whole new dimension to every piece the models wore on the runway. The show was not very easy-going, but made a statement that fashion doesn’t have to be easy at all. A show that provoked us to think further and to -reinvent the status quo – of everything.

Gucci – Milan Fashion Week

Gucci’s Allessandro Michele has set the expectations of his show high – very high. While he is responsible for fading the distinction between gender and make fashion a story of individuality, Michele tried something new and shocking again. Models were wearing masks, fetisj like masks. Michele explains that masks are very interesting and fascinating, because they’re both hollow and filled. “They both conceal and reveal.” Furthermore, the absence of (many) logos was striking – Gucci is known for its massive use of logos and created the logomania trend – as we know it today – with it. Does this mean logos are over? Not sure. Gucci seems to teach us to be a little more quiet next season, but by staying true to yourself and eccentric as always.

Jil Sander – Milan Fashion Week

If you consider layering is your go-to trend of the season, then definitely watch the full Jil Sander Fall/Winter 2019 show. Crisp dresses worn over black pants weren’t an exception. Despite the layering and the minimalistic and androgyn design, the entire silhouette and looks were still very feminine. This is something the designers – Lucie and Luke Meier – are famous for. They succeed season after season. Overall Jil Sander’s show is very wearable and looked comfortable. The perfect suit for today’s power women.

Hottest brands of Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2019

Moncler Genius – perfect puffer

“A luxury collection for four-legged friends.” What else do we need to add? The addition of “Genius” to Moncler is very, very on point. It definitely forms one of the hottest trends of Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2019. We can’t wait to 1) buy a four legged friend and 2) make it wear a tailored Moncler Genius puffer jacket. It’s just brilliant.

Fendi – honor to Karl Lagerfeld

Since Karl Lagerfeld has had the creative supervision over Fendi for more than 50 years, the Fendi show at Milan Fashion Week 2019 formed a tribute to him. Despite his well-known role at Chanel, we must not forget he was creative director at fashion house Fendi as well. As sad as it is, this show marked Karl’s very last collection for the brand. The entire show was a tribute to fashion’s greatest. Not only because of the collection itself, but also because of the hair and make-up and the emotional attachment of the models. Supermodel Gigi Hadid had tears in her eyes when showing the final look. A show to remember.

MSGM – Flash Art

MSGM’s designer Massimo Giorgetti used analog inspiration for his collection showed at Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2019. Flash Art – a magazine from the 60ies – formed the creative inspiration for his collection. He used the magazines quite literally: cover prints were turned into T-shirts and jeans. It gave the collection graphic elements. Combine this with 80ies silhouettes and you’ve got a refreshing new look on fashion.
