After the shocking news Clare Waight Keller leaving Givenchy after just three years, rumours about the potential successor circled around. That is, until today, when the luxury brand announced its new creative director on Instagram. Newly Givenchy member Matthew Williams hopes to “spread hope” with his upcoming work. Let’s take a further look at this interesting mind.

After a couple of successful years, Givenchy and Clare Waight Keller ‘divorced’ in April, while presenting her last collection in March. In just three years at Givenchy, she brought the renowned fashion house to the fore with dazzling haute couture collections, as well as with feministic slogans and powerful statements at every show. There are so many highlights to elaborate on, but the most important one must be that the designer dressed Meghan Markle for the – much discussed – royal wedding.

While we still couldn’t get used to a Givenchy without Waight Keller, things changed dramatically this afternoon when the luxury label officially welcomed their newest family member on Instagram: creative director Matthew Williams. The 34-years old Williams made name at luxury streetwear label 1017 Alyx 9SM. Many expect that Williams will bring some street vibes to Givenchy and so, bringing the brand to another level.

Impressive resume

On top of working for a high-end streetwear label, Williams has an impressive resume. He was one of the first designers to create looks for Lady Gaga’s first world tour, designed impressive Moncler x Genius items. Hence, he received an overall cult status based on his work for Alyx.

In an exclusive press statement, Williams said that he wants to “spread hope” in times like these. According to him, Givenchy is the perfect outlet for doing so. In October his first collection will arrive. Until then, we can only guess what it will look like, perhaps a little more street-inspired and full of BLM-statements. We have high hopes.
