The schedule is packed with established designer brands such as Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs and 3.1 Phillip Lim, but also with their younger colleagues such as Sies Marjan and Veronica Beard. Besides attending shows and watching fashion-savvy people across New York, you’d almost forget to eat.

1. Balthazar
It has been 23 years since Balthazar has been located at 80 Spring Street, between Broadway and Crosby Street. This French bistro makes you feel like you’re in Paris, including a great selection of French wines and divine French plates. Nice to know: ask for the Raw Bar’s menu – it features a wide selection of shelfish, oysters and clams.
Owner Keith McNally isn’t unformiliar in the scene; he also owns Pastis, Cafe Luxembourg, Lucky Strike, the Russian-themed bar and restaurant Pravda, Odeon in Tribeca, and Schiller’s Liquor Bar.

2. Freemans Restaurant
Freemans Restaurant has a romantic story. “In the fall of 2004, Taavo Somer and William Tigertt happened upon a perfect cozy space at the end of an unused alley off the Bowery, and Freemans Restaurant was born. The idea of the restaurant was to make a rugged clandestine colonial American Tavern. The cuisine was also imagined to early American: Simple, Rustic, and inspired by Old World traditions.”

3. Ippudo NY
Located close to 8th East Street and 3rd Avenue, Ippudo NY is an Asian restaurant where you can’t make a reservation. We can assure you it’s worth the wait, if you have to stand in line.

4. The Butcher’s Daughter
The Butcher’s Daughter is the perfect place to have a healthy and plant-based brunch, lunch or dinner. The owner describes The Butcher’s Daughter as “vegetable slaughterhouse”, since they treat plants like a butcher treats meat. They chop, fill, carve fresh vegetables into vegetarian dishes that are finger-licking good.

5. Buvette
Buvette is “dedicated to the enjoyment of eating and drinking”. And so it is. In early 2011, owner and chef Jody Williams established this place, which is inspired by European traditions and a deep love for craftsmanship. After the success in New York City, Williams opened dependances in Paris and Tokyo as well.
Go here for the perfect mashed avocado toast or to have a glass of wine in the afternoon. The perfect spot to rest down in between fashion shows.

6. Beauty & Essex
When entering Beauty & Essex, you’ll first step through their Pawn Shop, with a collection of vintage jewelry, custom musical instruments, one-of-a-kind art, and plenty of other treasures curated by Lauren Kaminsky.
Just as the shop, the restaurant’s menu and interior is an eclectic mix. Just like Balthazar, Beauty & Essex has a terrific raw bar, with dishes like spice salmon tartar, tuna poke wonton tacos and a classic shrimp cocktail.

7. The Smile
The Smile is your go-to for a no-nonsense brunch, lunch or dinner. Located in Downtown Manhattan, The Smile has been the coziest subterranean café of Bond Street since its opening in 2009.

8. Django
Django is the place to be during New York Fashion Week. Due to its location – the basement of Roxy Hotel – Django has an indescribable intimate vibe. Go there for an alternative jazz concert, a cocktail or just to have dinner. The no-fuzz menu features dishes like roasted chicken breast, mac and cheese and a kale caesar salad.

9. Cafe Colette
Located in Brooklyn, Cafe Colette is one of our favorites across the bridge. The freshly baked scones and avocado toasts are too good to refuse. The dinner menu makes it hard to chose a dish as well: who says you can’t have everything anyways? Perhaps you haven’t got enough time in between shows, so check out the menu and make your decision before entering the cafe.

10. Five Leaves Greenpoint
Five Leaves Greenpoint is the perfect place to grab a morning coffee or to enjoy their breakfast, lunch or dinner. The owners have a true passion for food and solely use local produce. “We are dedicated to using the highest quality ingredients with a focus on sourcing local produce, sustainable seafood, free-range meat and poultry.” That’s how we like it.

11. Rosarito Fish Shack
Located in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Rosarito Fish Shack serves the best fish dishes you can imagine. It has been a local favorite since almost a decade. Therefore, we see no reason not to visit this family and friend-owned restaurant.

12. Le Crocodile
Recently opened and an immediate hit: that probably describes Le Crocodile (Brooklyn) best. Besides having a great French bistro-like menu, they serve the best cocktails in town. From steak tartare, tagine with almonds and pumpkin to duck breast with prunes: it’s simply the best.

13. Bar Bête
Bar Bête is new to Brooklyn as well. It’s definitely one of the best restaurants of New York to visit during Fashion Week. At this Brooklyn bistro, they serve small dishes to share (or not to share, that’s totally up to you).
